An exciting opportunity has become available for an Analytical Chemist  to join a well - known government organisation to perform analysis of Agrichemical – Antimicrobial / Veterinary and other food related residues.  

The successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of  Liquid Chromatography (LCMS/MS equipment) and / or Gas Chromatography (GCMS/MS equipment)  coupled with significant experience within a NATA accredited laboratory, demonstrating proficiency in the operation of instrument software, trouble shooting and maintaining analytical instruments. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake extraction and analysis of Agrichemcial-Antimicrobial/Veterinary and other residues in food related matrices in accordance to documented methods and quality control protocols.
  • Operate and maintain under general supervision laboratory instrumentation such as WATERS (UPLC-TQXS and TQS-Xevo) Liquid Chromatograph with Triple Quad Mass Spectrometry detection (LCMS-MS) and / or Gas Chromatography-Tendam Mass Spectrometry (GCMS-MS).
  • Process data from instruments, check QA/QC data while using professional judgement to assess whether data meets QA/QC acceptance criteria.
  • Checking and reporting of results within LIMS according to NATA requirements.
  • Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment according to NATA standards and department quality procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work to achieve target turnaround times.
  • Assist senior staff with validation of new extraction methods and / or new analytes to expand and increase testing capability to meet client requirements and expectations.
  • Experience with training, guiding and mentoring staff in the analysis, data processing, operation and maintenance of LCMSMS of Agrichemical-Antimicrobial/Veterinary and other residues in food matrices.
 
Ideally you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field (chemistry or equivalent) covering Agrichemicals and Veterinary Drugs Residues analysis with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently undertake Agrichemical-Antimicrobial / Veterinary and other residues in food analysis showing initiative and judgement.
  • Highly organised and able to work in a fast turnaround time environment to meet client needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysing samples for Agrichemcial – Antimicrobial / Veterinary and other residues in food using LCMS-MS and/or GCMS-MS equipment.
  • Able to check work from other analysts and report results within LIMS.
  • Possess sound knowledge of QA/QC requirements for testing samples for Agrichemcial - Antimicrobial / Veterinary and other residues in food whilst operating within a NATA accredited laboratory.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative and drive to meet shared goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently exhibit company’s values of being adaptable, accountable, innovate, inclusive, influential and strategic.
