Compliance & Investigations Officers | APS5 & APS6
Full-Time | Canberra | Non-Ongoing APS Appointments
Initial engagement up to 12 months | 15.4% superannuation
If your experience is in regulatory compliance, financial audit or investigations, these opportunities offer the chance to apply your skills to work that supports transparency in Australia’s electoral system.
Bayside Group is seeking candidates for eight positions within the Australian Electoral Commission’s Regulatory Division, across compliance and investigations at APS5 and APS6 levels.
The work focuses on political funding and financial disclosure. You will review financial information, identify potential non-compliance and contribute to assessments or investigations that need to be accurate, clearly documented and defensible.
The roles
APS5 Compliance Officers | 2 positions
Working under general supervision, you will review financial disclosure returns for accuracy, completeness and compliance with legislation. You will also assess election funding claims, undertake related reviews and enquiries, and support the accurate processing of funding payments.
APS6 Senior Compliance Officers | 3 positions
You will independently review financial disclosures and undertake more complex compliance assessments. Your responsibilities will include coordinating funding assessment and payment processes, analysing information to identify compliance risks, and providing guidance to junior staff.
APS5 Investigations Officers | 2 positions
You will support investigations by gathering, analysing and documenting information, including financial records. Working under general supervision, you will identify gaps and potential risks, use data and intelligence tools, and prepare briefs, reports and correspondence to support decisions.
APS6 Senior Investigations Officer | 1 position
You will conduct investigations into potential anti-avoidance schemes using a risk-based approach. This includes analysing data and intelligence, preparing briefs and recommendations, contributing to improvements in policies and procedures, and guiding junior investigators.
About you
We are looking for people who can assess information carefully, recognise issues and explain their findings clearly.
Relevant experience may come from government, a regulator, audit, financial services or another environment involving compliance assessments, financial assurance or investigations.
You will ideally bring:
- Relevant experience conducting compliance reviews, audits, assurance activities or investigations
- The ability to analyse financial records and other complex information, identify gaps and assess potential risks
- Strong written communication, including reports, briefs, recommendations or formal correspondence
- A methodical approach to reviewing information and maintaining accurate records
- Sound judgement when applying legislation, policies or procedures
- Effective stakeholder communication and the ability to manage competing priorities
For the APS6 positions, you should also demonstrate experience independently handling complex assessments or investigations and providing guidance to less experienced colleagues.
For compliance roles, qualifications or relevant experience in accounting, commerce, finance or related fields are highly desirable.
For investigations roles, a Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or willingness to undertake the qualification with AEC support, is highly desirable.
Why consider these opportunities?
You will join an expanding regulatory division whose work directly supports public confidence in electoral funding and financial disclosure.
At APS5 level, these roles offer the opportunity to develop your analytical and regulatory capability within a supportive team. At APS6 level, they offer greater autonomy, responsibility for complex work and the opportunity to guide others.
These are direct APS appointments with the AEC, with 15.4% superannuation, access to learning and development opportunities and AEC employee benefits.
The initial engagement is up to 12 months, with one possible extension taking the total term to a maximum of 18 months. Proposed commencement is 2 November 2026.
Eligibility
Applicants must be Australian citizens, able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, and meet the AEC’s pre-employment screening and political neutrality requirements.
