Food Technologist - Dairy

Our client is a global leader in complementary medicine and food products based in Macquarie Park. They are currently seeking an Applications Technician (all levels considered) to join their Food Bioscience Team.

Your primary responsibilities will involve providing pilot plant support and conducting analytical tasks, including chemical and microbiological analysis, working on fresh fermented dairy products, cheese, and plant-based fermented products.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Making samples in the pilot plant according to the recipe provided
  • After training, independently operate the pilot plant (including equipment such as homogeniser, incubator, autoclave, water bath, Ultra-Turrax, iCinac, pH meter and viscometer)
  • Perform basic microbiological and chemical analysis on finished products
  • Prototype creation and phage analysis
  • Realise reports and presentations on trials completed
  • Support the team for all pilot plant and laboratory activities
  • Organise and run sensory testing with prepared samples
  • Manage ingredient inventory, ordering supplies, and product shipping and receiving
  • Support the Applications team during customer workshops and innovation days by preparing all required materials
  • Maintain hygiene standards in the pilot plant and analytical laboratory
The successful candidate will have
  • Bachelor’s degree in food technology, food engineering or a related discipline (dairy specialisation is highly regarded)
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production or laboratory environment
  • Experience in product development and laboratory activities
  • Experience with fermented dairy products and/or cheese products
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical documents professionally and effectively
  • Ability to clearly describe findings and issues
  • Strong teamwork capabilities
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities
  • A growth mindset with a willingness to learn and accept feedback
  • Please note that due to the nature of culture work, there may be occasions where after-hours work is required (typically once or twice per week). Any additional hours worked will be balanced by reduced hours later in the week.
