Permanent Full-Time | Chelsea Heights & Langwarrin VIC | On-site
$135,000–$145,000 + Company Car & Fuel
If you're an experienced maintenance leader who enjoys being hands-on, solving equipment problems and improving plant reliability, this is an opportunity to take ownership of maintenance across two food manufacturing sites.
Bayside Group is partnering with an established food manufacturing business in Melbourne's southeast to recruit a Maintenance Manager for its Chelsea Heights and Langwarrin operations.
This is not a purely office based management role. You'll be closely involved in day to day maintenance, leading a small maintenance function and taking responsibility for equipment reliability, preventative maintenance and breakdown response.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you'll have the opportunity to improve maintenance practices and make a direct impact on production performance.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating maintenance activities across two manufacturing sites
- Managing and improving preventative maintenance programs using Limble CMMS
- Providing hands-on technical support, troubleshooting equipment faults and managing breakdown repairs
- Investigating recurring equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing lasting solutions
- Coordinating maintenance personnel, specialist contractors and external trades
- Managing equipment condition, asset maintenance requirements, critical spare parts and maintenance records
- Working closely with production and process development teams on equipment improvements, upgrades and maintenance planning
- Ensuring maintenance activities meet workplace safety, HACCP and quality requirements
- Reporting maintenance performance, equipment reliability and improvement priorities to the General Manager
The position also involves providing after-hours or on-call maintenance support when required.
About you
We're looking for someone with strong technical maintenance experience who understands the demands of a busy manufacturing environment and is comfortable taking responsibility for maintenance outcomes.
You may already be a Maintenance Manager, or an experienced Maintenance Supervisor ready to step into a broader leadership role.
You will ideally bring:
- Previous maintenance management or senior maintenance leadership experience within FMCG or food manufacturing
- Strong practical mechanical maintenance knowledge and fault-finding capability
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting production machinery and associated plant equipment
- Proven experience managing preventative maintenance programs, equipment reliability and breakdown response
- Experience using a CMMS to plan, manage and track maintenance activities
- Experience leading maintenance personnel and coordinating external contractors
- Strong problem-solving skills, including investigating recurring faults and implementing improvements
- A sound understanding of workplace safety, equipment isolation and manufacturing compliance requirements
- The ability to prioritise maintenance demands, work independently and communicate effectively with production teams and management
An electrical trade qualification, electrical licence or relevant disconnect/reconnect qualification would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
Experience with industrial electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, automated production machinery or Limble CMMS would also be advantageous.
While food manufacturing experience is preferred, candidates with strong transferable maintenance leadership experience from other FMCG or comparable production environments will also be considered.
Why consider this opportunity?
The attraction of this role is the combination of hands-on technical involvement and genuine ownership of maintenance operations.
You'll be responsible for maintenance across two established manufacturing sites, working directly with the General Manager and having the opportunity to improve equipment reliability, preventative maintenance and overall plant performance.
For an experienced Maintenance Supervisor looking to take the next step, or an established Maintenance Manager who enjoys staying technically involved, this offers a good balance of leadership, practical problem-solving and responsibility.
Salary: $135,000–$145,000 per annum + company car and fuel.
