An exciting opportunity has become available for a Media Prep Officer (Microbiologist) to undertake routine microbiological testing, preparing, assessing (via QC) and monitoring stock levels of microbiological media and labware.
This position will require basic understanding of working within a NATA accredited laboratory and provides both technical and operational support to the Microbiology Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prioritise and prepare microbiological media (including broths agars, agar plates and media supplements) following established procedures and in a timely manner. Perform QC on in-house prepared and externally supplied media according to NATA guidelines.
- Undertake routine microbiological testing in accordance to documented methods and quality control protocols.
- Identify anomalies, interpret data and prepare associated worksheets with respect to routine microbiological testing and media preparation. All records are to be passed on to the immediate supervisor for approval.
- Sterilse, clean and/or prepare laboratory glass and plasticware including sterilising filters for Membrane filtration
- Calibrate laboratory equipment used in the laboratory including the media room as required.
- Carry out other tasks in the microbiology laboratory as directed.
- Work safely in accordance to procedures and site protocols. Follow WHS procedures and use appropriate safety equipment associated with routine operation within the section.
Ideally you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a scientific field (Microbiology, Food Technology or equivalent) and preferable minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Highly organised and able to manage workload in a fast turnaround time environment to meet clients’ needs.
- Experience in microbiological media preparation according to NATA guidelines
- Experience in routine microbiological testing following documented methods and quality protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently exhibit the organisational values of being adaptable, accountable, innovate, inclusive, influential and strategic.
