  • What is involved in the engineering recruitment process?

    An engineering recruitment process is like most recruitment processes for professionals.  It includes resume screening, at least one interview, professional reference checks, offer and acceptance. 


    It may differ for engineers at the following stages:

    • Interviews – the initial interview is often conducted by a recruiter and focuses on assessing your cultural fit, communication skills, and overall suitability for the role. If you progress to the next stage, a second interview may be arranged with a senior leader or technical manager. This interview typically explores your technical competency in greater depth and may include scenario-based or project-specific questions—especially if the role is critical to a major project or the organisation's strategic goals.
    • Verification – your qualifications will be verified. If you have qualifications from overseas, you’ll need to check with Engineers Australia to ensure you’re accredited to practice as an engineer in Australia. You can find the relevant information here.
  • What type of engineering roles can you fill?

  • How do you ensure only the best engineering candidates are shortlisted?

    Bayside Group consultants meet with professionals within their area of specialisation every day and know their market. They also take the time to get to understand client work environments and requirements. Combined with innovative sourcing and talent mapping techniques, we’ve had almost 50 years proven experience in shortlisting only the best engineering candidates. 

  • What's the average timeframe to fill an engineering position?

    Two weeks is the average, but Bayside Group has filled contract positions within 24 hours. We will always provide an estimated timeframe when taking a job brief.


    Timeframes depend on the type of role (is it contract or permanent) and how difficult the role is to fill. Factors that will have an impact include the salary, the company’s reputation, how many people are available with the required skill sets, availability of company representatives to attend interviews, how quickly a hiring decision is made, whether a medical or police check is required, and more. We generally advise you to allow 4 weeks for specialised engineering roles and 6 weeks for senior leadership positions.
