Celebrating 50 years
Partnering in the future of people.
Our business has been built on two founding principles – specialist expertise and long-term partnerships.
For 50 years, Bayside Group has evolved our recruitment and workforce management services to meet the needs of Australian communities, industries, employers and employees.
This approach has enabled us to help thousands of companies, and tens of thousands of professionals, to reach their full potential.
How
it all began
Three young drafters established Bayside Drafting Australia (now Balpara) in 1976, operating from a backyard bungalow. Robert Blanche and John Wilson, two of the original founders, continue to guide the business as Board members.
Recruiting the best technical talent was key to the company’s early success as a building boom had created skill shortages. Soon after, Bayside Personnel (now Bayside Group) was introduced, driven by urgent client requests for engineering and technical professionals.
The recruitment business continued to expand in the 1980s, with complementary disciplines such as business administration added to our engineering and technical expertise. In 1985, a new brand was established to deliver labour hire services, which today is known as Acclaimed Workforce.
In addition to our engineering, technical and administrative areas of expertise, Bayside Group added scientific recruitment with the acquisition of Techstaff in 2004, and education soon after. Since our inception, our services have been backed by deep industry knowledge, trusted relationships, consistent values and a genuine commitment to customer success.

Resourcing Australia’s growth and
changing needs
For 50 years, we’ve provided recruitment and workforce management solutions to help meet the needs of employers.
This includes resourcing major housing, infrastructure and mining booms, energy projects, automotive design hubs, and airport and port redevelopments to connect Australia with global tourism and trade. We’ve supported iconic developments like Southgate in Melbourne and Southbank in Brisbane, the Sydney 2000 and upcoming Brisbane Olympics, and major underground, bridge, tunnel and rail upgrades and projects.
Our specialist consultants have provided scientific professionals to work on critical innovations in the health, pharmaceutical, industrial and FMCG sectors. During emergencies such as the bird flu epidemic and Covid-19 pandemic, we provided scientists, testers and production workers.
We’ve also supported the food, agricultural, nutrients and beverage sectors, witnessing first-hand how Australian habits have changed over time. Many of these clients, particularly those in the wine and agricultural industries, are serviced from our offices in regional hubs.
Bayside Group has been successful because we focus on more than simply filling roles. What sets us apart is our commitment to specialist expertise, genuine partnership and long-term relationships. We take the time to understand the industries we serve, the employers we service, and the people we place. This allows us to deliver recruitment and workforce management solutions that are thoughtful, targeted and aligned.
Making workplaces better
We’ve been recognised for driving ethical industry standards over the decades, encompassing human resources, recruitment, safety management and workplace relations best practice, while educating and supporting employers throughout the years.
Bayside Group’s focus on long-term relationships has been critical to understanding the needs of employees and employers. Informal conversations along with the formal feedback mechanisms introduced over time, have helped us to continuously implement improvements.
Workplaces in the early years compared with today seem almost incomprehensible, the first modern OH&S legislation was only enacted in the 1980s. With a background in drafting, design and construction, we advocated for better safety standards. Our dedication to ethical processes also enabled us to effectively adopt the many industrial relations reforms from the 1990s. For Australian employees, continued improvements and legislation in these areas has made a substantial difference to their experience at work.
Throughout our long history, we have worked with organisations to drive best practice, interpreting and implementing systems for compliance. As Australian legislation and definitions continue to expand and responsibility incorporates proactive management, organisation are requesting more guidance than ever.
Supporting careers at every stage
Work in Australia is very different to 50 years ago – people, behaviours, jobs, skills, structures, technology, collaboration, processes, compliance and culture have evolved exponentially. All employees need to adapt throughout their career as they face frequent transitions, some chosen and others imposed, and balance work with life.
Technology has had a major impact over this time, most significantly with PCs and digital software in the late 1980s and 1990s, and with AI in the last eighteen months. Likewise, globalisation has affected so many industries; manufacturing offshoring and the evolution of logistics and warehousing are just two significant examples.
We’ve seen the introduction of hundreds of new roles, and the extinction of many others, guiding our candidates and workforce through it all. Even expectations relating to training and qualifications have shifted over this time, becoming increasingly formalised before a recent shift towards micro-learning.
We’ve had the privilege to work with talented professionals, supporting them through every stage of their career; first jobs, career breaks, flexible work, career changes, interstate or international moves and executive placements. Many of our long-term consultants work with senior people that they placed in their first job!
Looking ahead to the next 50 years
As employment continues to evolve, so too will our business. Recruitment in the future will demand greater agility, deeper market insights, and a continued focus on partnerships. We are committed to investing in our people, strengthening our industry expertise and embracing new ways of working to ensure we continue delivering exceptional outcomes.
Our longevity is built on resilience, adaptability and specialist expertise. Long-standing employees, Joe Galea and Wayne Eaton, have carried forward our legacy now as General Managers, ensuring continuity while embracing innovation.
We’ve navigated numerous economic downturns, two recessions, globalisation and offshoring, skill shortages, regional conflicts, technology transformations, pandemics and so much more. Our team feels incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work with great employers and talented employees along the way.
At the heart of our success are long-term partnerships and in-depth industry knowledge. We will continue to specialise in areas where we can add real value, rather than trying to be everything to everyone. To all of you who have been a part of our journey, thank you. Here’s to the next 50 years!
